一、Key Structure

1、Mechanical Keys

Each key on a mechanical keyboard has an independent mechanical structure, and there are various mechanical designs with different tactile sensations. Therefore, manufacturers use colors to name and differentiate the axes with different sensations, reducing the cost for buyers to choose the axis.

2、Capacitive Key

Each key on a capacitive keyboard is an independent capacitive switch. In terms of triggering principles, a capacitive keyboard utilizes the change in capacitance to determine the open and closed states of the keys. When a key is pressed, the capacitance in the switch changes, triggering the action. The entire process does not require the physical closure of a switch. Due to the absence of physical contact points for key presses, there is less wear and tear, resulting in a longer lifespan. Capacitive keyboards are more stable, responsive, have full key rollover, and are extremely sensitive.

二、Keycap Material

Common keycap materials include ABS, PBT, POM, etc., with mass-produced keyboards primarily using ABS or PBT keycaps. POM keycaps have become very rare.

ABS has the advantages of a skin-friendly feel and low cost. However, due to its low hardness, it is not wear-resistant and is prone to becoming shiny and smooth (commonly known as "shining") over time.

PBT, on the other hand, has the advantages of high hardness and strong wear resistance. It is highly resistant to shining but has a slightly rougher feel compared to the skin-friendly ABS. PBT keycaps also come at a higher cost.
